Technical co-founder. Serious AI builder. Entirely uninterested in beige.

Ian Boddison builds the side of Grant Genie that has to think clearly, move fast and actually work.

Ian is the eccentric technical co-founder of Grant Genie: with alt bi girly energy, a creator, systems thinker and hands-on builder who writes code, shapes product logic and turns ambitious ideas into working tools. He cares about elegant systems, sharp decisions and software that earns its place by being genuinely useful.

His view is simple: too much funding exists, too many organisations are doing meaningful work, and far too much of that money still gets trapped behind bad process, clumsy technology and avoidable friction. Grant Genie exists to change that.

AI with actual utility Systems built for real-world pressure Human clarity over hype theatre Less admin drag, more forward motion

Builder first

Ian is not a pitch-deck founder. He writes code, designs flows, shapes systems and obsesses over the bits most people only wave at in strategy meetings.

Vision with substance

He thinks seriously about where AI helps, where it confuses, and how to make powerful tools feel accessible rather than intimidating.

Different on purpose

Grant Genie does not sand away personality to look respectable. Ian believes clarity, taste and originality can sit perfectly comfortably with credibility.

What Ian does

He turns complexity into tools people can actually use.

Ian works at the intersection of product architecture, AI behaviour, automation and user experience. He is interested in systems that do real work: matching organisations to better-fit opportunities, removing repetitive friction and helping good teams move from intention to action faster.

  • Designing the logic that helps Grant Genie surface relevant funding opportunities more intelligently.
  • Building AI features that support users instead of performing intelligence at them.
  • Shaping product flows so charities and non-profits can get value quickly, even without technical confidence.
  • Keeping the platform grounded in usefulness, not buzzwords, vanity metrics or startup cosplay.

Why Grant Genie exists

Because too much funding never reaches the people doing the work.

Ian is deeply frustrated by the amount of available funding that goes underused while charities and mission-led organisations are left navigating outdated directories, patchy information and exhausting grant admin. That is not a lack-of-effort problem. It is a systems problem.

Grant Genie was built to close that gap: to make the search smarter, the process lighter and the technology more generous to the people using it. Better tools do not solve everything, but bad tools quietly waste staggering amounts of time. Ian has no patience for that.

How Ian thinks

Sharp ideas. Clean systems. A low tolerance for nonsense.

Ian is drawn to clarity, originality and elegant structure. He likes technology that feels lucid rather than overexplained, powerful rather than theatrical, and distinctive rather than committee-smoothed into oblivion. He believes trust comes from substance, not stiffness, and that the best systems are the ones that quietly make hard things feel more possible.

01

Clarity over ceremony

If users have to fight the interface, the cleverness has failed. Good systems make the next step obvious.

02

AI should reduce intimidation

The useful future is not louder. It is more approachable, more practical and easier for real people to act on.

03

Originality matters

Bland products are rarely more trustworthy. They are usually just less memorable and less honest about who built them.

04

Working beats performative

Ian prefers systems with measurable utility to anything designed mainly to look impressive in a founder monologue.

Founder manifesto

"Grant Genie is for organisations doing meaningful work. They deserve technology with brains, backbone and a bit of voltage."

That is the energy Ian brings to the product: technical seriousness without dryness, credibility without conformity, and a genuine belief that important work should be supported by tools with ambition and personality rather than thin, forgettable software.

Outside the corporate mould

Ian is not interested in becoming a generic founder silhouette in a navy blazer saying very little with enormous confidence. He likes style, edge and strong opinions, but always in service of clarity and craft. The point is not to be loud for the sake of it. The point is to build things with conviction.

Human, not faceless

Grant Genie is shaped by people who care deeply about the organisations using it. Ian's technical work is grounded in that human reality: smaller teams, limited time, meaningful missions, and no room for software that wastes attention.

Built by real humans

Grant Genie is serious technology with a point of view.

Ian helped build it for organisations that deserve better tools, clearer routes to funding and a platform that feels alive rather than interchangeable. Less beige. More signal. More usefulness. More action.

Real systems. Real care. Sharp edges kept on purpose.
